The gram panchayats at Pulicat, Kottaikuppam and Thangal Perumbulam have been trying to implement a proper solid waste management system for some time. Due to the lack of door-to-door waste collection process in these panchayats the Pulicat Lake, Asia’s second-largest brackish water lagoon is turning into a garbage dump. These tractors will help to put in place a systematic waste collection process, and timely transport of the garbage ensuring better hygiene and sanitation in the area. This will come as a great relief to the 7809 families of these three panchayats.
Proper collection and transportation of waste from the households and other public places will be reinstated in these panchayats and this will also prevent the disposal of waste to Pulicat Lake. In addition to the Solid Waste Management initiative, Adani Foundation, through their Citizen Led Campaigns, in association with these panchayats, will also educate the community on segregation of waste, sanitation, and environment protection.
Adani Foundation will be launching several programs for these three panchayats including developing and supporting 5 business groups to provide livelihood, Skill training for over 600 youngsters, livelihood-focused support for persons with disabilities, sports ground development to name a few.
