GRAB THE CRAB – BREAST CANCER AWARENESS RUN ORGANIZED BY VIJAYA GROUP OF HOSPITALS, CHENNAI

Vijaya Group of Hospitals, Chennai had organized a Marathon “Grab the Crab” – An Awareness Run for Breast Cancer on 12th October, 2019 at Besant Nagar. The 5 Km annual run by Vijaya Hospitals was conducted to spread awareness about Breast Cancer. It aims to promote the concept of early detection for timely intervention relating to the treatment of breast cancer. The run was flagged by Master Sharvesh, the 7 year old Young Runner from Chennai in the presence of the Managing Trustee & CEO – Smt.B.Bharathi Reddy and Trustee Smt.Aradhana Reddy.

The run had over 500 participants and mainly aimed at insisting on people to know that early detection of breast cancer takes a long way in preventing complications. Our Hospital possesses state-of-the art ‘Breast Clinic’ facility which is a one stop for detection and treatment of breast cancer. All participants in this run were offered special discounts on Preventive Health Check Packages and breast health check for women. Cash prizes were given to the first three runners and finisher medals for all participants.

Facts that we need to be aware about breast cancer include:

  • Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women worldwide and the second-most common cancer overall.

Today, about 1 in 8 women (12%) will develop breast cancer in her lifetime.

  • Most women with breast cancer don’t have these other risk factors. All women are at risk for breast cancer and your risk only increases as you get older.
  • Breast cancer can affect women of all ages (not necessarily the older women).

Early detection can help reduce the number of deaths from breast cancer by 30 to 40% among women ages 40 to 70.

Breast cancer is one of those ailments that can be stressful not only for the affected women, but also for their families and friends. Hence this event encouraged people of all age groups to come and be part of this social cause. This run “Grab the Crab” was an attempt to make a difference and support for the fight against breast cancer, a disease which affects millions of people every year
