MGM Cancer Institute Marks World Rose Day with 100 Bone Marrow Transplants & Launch of Swasthi

MGM Cancer Institute marked World Rose Day with a significant milestone—the completion of 100 bone marrow transplants (BMT) since April 2024—and the launch of the Swasthi Patient Benefit Card. The initiative aims to support the educational needs of underprivileged children who have survived cancer treatment and undergone bone marrow transplantation.

The 100 BMT procedures were performed for patients with conditions including thalassemia, sickle cell anemia, aplastic anaemia, immunodeficiencies, leukaemia and myeloma. The transplant programme included autologous, matched family donor and complex half-matched transplants.

In association with Anamaya Children’s Trust, MGM Cancer Institute will provide financial assistance through the Swasthi Patient Benefit Card to eligible cancer survivors when they reach Classes X and XII, helping them pursue education without financial barriers.

More than 60 cancer-survivor families, including over 25 children, participated in the World Rose Day celebration. The event featured cultural performances, singing, dance, cancer-warrior talks, a magic show and activities for children, highlighting hope, resilience, early cancer detection and emotional support.

The event was attended by H. Vinoth, Vishnupriya Ravi, Deepa Venkat, Aparna Shyam, Dr. Nitin Agarwal and Dr. Prashanth Rajagopalan, along with senior medical professionals from MGM Cancer Institute.

The milestone highlights advancements in bone marrow transplantation and cellular therapy, while government-supported healthcare schemes including TNMCHIS, PMJAY and Arogya Sri help improve access to life-saving transplant procedures for patients from diverse financial backgrounds
