MGM Healthcare Malar Adyar Launches Metabolic Clinic for Obesity Diabetes and Metabolic Disorders
MGM Healthcare Malar, Adyar, has launched a comprehensive Metabolic Clinic in Chennai to provide personalised, evidence-based care for obesity and associated metabolic disorders. The new multispecialty programme focuses on sustainable weight management, improved metabolic health and the management of related medical complications.
The programme addresses a wide range of health conditions, including obesity, prediabetes, type 2 diabetes, Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), abnormal cholesterol and triglyceride levels, cardiovascular risks, obstructive sleep apnea, fatty liver disease and weight-related joint problems.
Multispecialty Approach to Obesity and Metabolic Health
The Metabolic Clinic follows an endocrinologist-led approach, bringing together specialists from endocrinology, cardiology, pulmonology and hepatology, along with dietitians and physiotherapists. This integrated model aims to provide individualised treatment plans based on each patient’s health needs and metabolic risk factors.
The clinic offers comprehensive cardiovascular risk assessment, respiratory care for obesity-associated conditions, liver health management, personalised nutritional guidance and physiotherapy support to improve mobility and physical activity.
Advanced body composition analysis technology enables the assessment of fat and muscle mass, supporting more precise treatment planning. The programme also offers newer pharmacological treatments, including GLP-1-based medications where clinically appropriate, alongside customised lifestyle interventions.
Clinic Inaugurated by Maduravoyal MLA
Thiru Rhevanth Charan P, MLA, Maduravoyal, inaugurated the Metabolic Clinic in the presence of Dr. Kalpana Thai B, Medical Superintendent, MGM Healthcare Malar, Adyar; Dr. Meherprasad Y. D., Senior Consultant Endocrinologist; and the clinic’s team of medical experts.
The programme is led by Dr. Meherprasad Y. D., who has over 30 years of experience in weight management. The specialist team includes Dr. Manohar G. from Cardiology, Dr. Ammaiyappan Palaniswamy C. from Pulmonology and Dr. Kavitha Sampathkumar from Hepatology, supported by dietitians and physiotherapists.
Focus on Sustainable Weight Management
According to Dr. Meherprasad, metabolic conditions such as excess weight, elevated blood sugar, abnormal cholesterol and PCOS are becoming increasingly common among adults, children and young adults. Early identification and appropriate treatment can help address associated health risks and support better long-term outcomes.
He highlighted that the clinic’s integrated approach enables personalised treatment plans combining medical management, appropriate medication and sustainable lifestyle changes, with the aim of reducing the need for surgery wherever possible.
Mr. Venugopal Bhat, Chief Operating Officer and Vice President, Group Strategic Initiatives, MGM Healthcare Malar, Adyar, said the programme aims to address the underlying metabolic factors associated with obesity rather than focusing on weight loss alone. The initiative brings together nutritional guidance, physical activity and specialist-led medical care to support lasting improvements in health and well-being.
With its comprehensive multispecialty model, MGM Healthcare Malar’s new Metabolic Clinic aims to help patients manage obesity-related complications, improve metabolic health and adopt healthier habits for the long term
